A PRISONER had to be rescued from their cell during a fire at a prison.
Emergency services were called to the blaze at HMP Lewes at 5.19pm on Saturday, July 30.
Fire crews from Lewes, Preston Circus and Roedean attended the blaze in Brighton Road, Lewes.
An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said they responded following reports of a fire in a cell.
“One person was extricated from the cell and handed over in to the care of SECAMB,” he said.
“Firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish the fire and used two breathing apparatus.
“We left the scene at 6.30pm”
