AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a construction worker died while working at Gatwick Airport train station.
Paramedics and officers from British Transport Police were called to reports that a worker at been injured at the station.
However, the 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
The man had been working on the £150 million upgrade of the train station but died following “an incident on-site”, according to John Halsall, regional managing director for Network Rail’s southern region.
He said: “This is a tragic accident and our thoughts are with the colleague’s family and friends.
“We will do everything we can to support everyone involved and are working closely with the British Transport Police and the Health and Safety Executive who are leading the investigation.”
The incident happened at 12.13am on July 22.
