PASSENGERS are being urged to only travel by train if “absolutely necessary” as rail workers strike today.
Nearly 100,000 staff are set to walk out as Rail, Maritime and Transport union workers employed by Network Rail and 14 rail operators take part in a one-day stoppage.
Network Rail said there will be a “very limited” timetable running between 7.30am and 6.30pm across the UK, and that some areas of the country will have no rail services at all.
Disruption is also expected tomorrow “due to the knock-on impact of industrial action on shift patterns”, Network Rail said.
The strike will also mean services start later and finish earlier than normal.
