A NEW supermarket has opened at the site of a store which was previously demolished.
The Co-op store in London Road, Brighton, is underneath a new accommodation building and will create 30 new jobs.
Running fully on renewable energy, the new branch features Amazon parcel collection, a fairtrade coffee machine, freshly squeezed orange juice and sushi, as well as the store’s everyday essentials.
It also features a recycling unit to allow the community to return “soft plastics”, including crisp packets, lids from ready meals and biscuit wrappers.
Ferhat Spurling, store manager for the new store, previously said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to create a new-look Co-op store in London Road.
“Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life, and we are looking forward to welcoming our members and customers into their new Co-op.
“We have worked to create the range, choice, products and added services to create a really compelling offer to serve the community conveniently.”
The new store also features a hot food area, food to go, bakery section, self-checkouts and more.
Co-op’s previous store in London Road closed in October 2019 and was demolished to make way for student housing.
