A PARK run was forced to cancel for safety reasons after caravans and other vehicles appeared at one of the city’s largest public parks.
The Vitality Park Run normally takes place at 9am every Saturday in Preston Park, but organisers decided to cancel the event due to “travellers in the park”.
They said: “They aren’t on the course but there are so many vehicles and quad bikes driving dangerously we daren’t go ahead.”
Passers-by described seeing people “bombing around on quad bikes” around the park, with one man seen “zooming around on a motorbike while carrying a baby with one arm”.
At least 30 caravans and other vehicles have been seen at the park.
A police spokesman said officers are working with the council to determine what steps should be taken.
He said: “We are aware of a number of vehicles which arrived at Preston Park. We are closely monitoring the situation in consultation with the local authority to help ensure local community safety and to establish what next steps should be taken.”
It comes just months after another group of caravans parked up at the park before being moved on by police.
