STAFF, pupils and parents at a primary school are "thrilled" after receiving a “good” rating following an Ofsted inspection.
Heron Park Primary Academy in Eastbourne, which is part of Aurora Academies Trust, was last inspected in October 2018 when it was found to require improvement.
In the latest report, inspectors noted “pupils are proud of their school and are happy at school.”
Ofsted praised the provision for those in the early years and said “children chat happily with staff and each other as they learn”.
The report recognised the work of the school and the trust to drive improvements, despite the challenges of the pandemic.
It said: “Leaders, staff and governors are a dedicated and ambitious team.
“Together they have brought about considerable improvement to the school.”
Head of school Jo Richardson said: “The pandemic has created significant challenges for schools but we have remained absolutely committed to ensuring that Heron Park provides the best possible standard of education.
“I’m thrilled that Ofsted have recognised the improvements we have made and the positive impact that they are having on all our pupils.”
They also praised the development of staff and said: “Leaders have made the development of staff a key priority.”
Thomas McMorrin, executive headteacher, said “I’m delighted that our new curriculum and expert teaching has been highlighted by Ofsted.
“This positive report gives us great confidence that we are working on the right things and we will continue to work hard to make Heron Park a truly great school.”
The report also highlighted the effectiveness of safeguarding at the school, as well as the way the school works with families.
Inspectors praised the wider work of the school and said: “Leaders ensure that pupils’ personal development is planned for carefully.
“Pupils benefit from a wide range of clubs and activities such as trips that enhance the curriculum.”
Ofsted asked the school to keep working on the curriculum.
Inspectors said: “The school’s curriculum is not yet as effective as it could be in some subjects.
“It is clear from leaders’ actions that they are well under way with their work to implement the refined curriculum, but there is still more to do.”
