A COUPLE have been left devastated after the new patio at the flats where they live was covered in paint in a mystery attack.

Kaye Teale and Aurelijus Krucyk, of Windsor Lodge in Kemp Town, Brighton, woke on Monday morning to find their new paving ruined by black, oil-based paint.

The project was only completed on Saturday.

“We are absolutely gutted,” said Aurelijus.

“It’s not only that the work been destroyed, but also the build-up, the stress, the amount of time it took. It’s a loss of emotional investment as well.

“It’s all up the slabs, the tiles, and up the door as well.

“To think that someone came in the middle of the night and did this, it’s very unsettling.”

It is believed the attack took place between 1am and 6am, as a neighbour said they were outside the property at about 12.30am and saw no signs of paint.

Kaye and Aurelijus said the work took six weeks to complete, then “two days later, it was ruined”.

Aurelijus said: “Even if the work gets redone, which it will eventually, the problem is there there’s no guarantee that they won’t come back and do it again.”

The couple has been working closely with the police, their neighbours and other members of their community to try to identify the person responsible for the attack.

“It definitely doesn’t look like a random act of vandalism,” said Aurelijus.

“It’s just the new areas that were targeted – new tiles, new slabs.”

Sussex Police have been contacted for comment.
