PART of the A27 is closed and there is heavy traffic westbound after a car carrying wood toppled over.
The incident happened around 2.15pm this afternoon on the A27 at the Patcham turn off going towards the A23 London Road.
The road has been closed from Hollingbury to Patcham around 3.15pm while recovery takes place.
The car can be seen on its side with a stack of wood in the trailer which is also overturned.
The central reservation is also slightly damaged.
It is unclear if the driver suffered any serious injuries.
Queues are stretching all the way back to Falmer by the Lewes Road turn off.
One passerby told The Argus: "They had the car on the back of a recovery truck when I went past but the trailer was full of wood was still facing the wrong way.
"Loads of people had their doors open and had got out of their cars.
"It was so hot people were having to get their dogs out."
Sussex Police have been approached for comment.
