DISRUPTION is expected with essential road resurfacing work set to begin.
The surface on a section of the A2025 Grinstead Lane in Lancing is “showing signs of weakening”, according to West Sussex County Council.
Road resurfacing work to make the road smoother and therefore reduce noise is scheduled to start on Monday, July 18.
It will also be more resilient to potholes, the council said.
The work is scheduled to be completed by Saturday, July 23, subject to factors including the weather.
The resurfacing will take place between the A27 Upper Brighton Road and railway bridge - omitting the length between Crabtree Lane and Grinstead Avenue, which was recently resurfaced.
The hours of work will generally be between 8pm and 6am.
The section of road being worked on will be closed to all vehicles at these times and a signed diversion in place.
A West Sussex County Council spokeswoman said: “We don’t decide to carry out night-time resurfacing lightly. We have taken into account the wider disruption to the public that would be caused through daytime work on this busy road.
“Improvement projects of this nature do cause disruption for both residents and businesses, for which we apologise, but will lead to long-term benefits.
“Every effort will be made to try to minimise the inconvenience: for example, our contractor will try its best to carry out the noisiest operations in the earliest part of the evening and before 11pm.”
Bus companies serving the area have been notified of these works. However, a minimal number of buses serve this area during the working hours.
Side roads may also be affected during the works.
Pedestrian access will be maintained, and businesses will be able to remain open throughout.
