A MAN has been arrested after a father-to-be was killed in a hit and run crash.
Jack Brandon, 22, died in the early hours of July 3 after being hit by a vehicle on the B2112 New Road between Ditchling and Clayton.
The vehicle failed to stop following the crash.
On Thursday, July 7, officers arrested a 53-year-old man from Hove on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
A vehicle was also seized by police.
Friends and family have paid tribute to Jack, who died just months before his partner is expected to give birth to a baby girl.
Oliver Dommett, a close friend, said his family found his loss “surreal” and have been “strong, but angry” in the wake of his death.
He previously said: “We all have so many unanswered questions. Jack is going to have a beautiful daughter that is going to grow up and she is going to have those questions as well.
“It will give closure to everyone if they can just be answered. Just do the right thing and come forward so Jack can rest peacefully.”
Oliver, who employed Jack as an apprentice plasterer at the age of 17, said: “He was loved by everyone - I’ve never met anyone who had a bad word to say about him.
“He was one of those people who could annoy you, but he would just pull a cheeky grin and you would forgive him for everything.”
He added that Jack was a hard worker with an unmatched sense of humour and a heart of gold.
Sussex Police thanked the public for their assistance so far, but continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward.
Anyone with information, or who may have any relevant CCTV, doorbell or dash cam footage, is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk or call 101, quoting Operation Kempston.
A fundraiser, set up by Oliver to help Jack’s family and his partner, has raised more than £10,000 so far.
