A MAN who was arrested at an airport yesterday, in an incident that caused widespread “chaos”, has been charged.
Emergency services were called to Gatwick Airport yesterday at 4.50pm to reports of a vehicle being abandoned.
A police cordon was put in place at the drop-off parking area causing mass disruption to passengers and traffic in the area.
Andris Sibu, 34, of Lamb Alley, Dublin, has been charged with drink-driving after being arrested.
He has been released on bail to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on August 16.
One woman took to Twitter to voice her frustration at the situation.
She said: “Is anyone going to advise passengers what they can do to catch their flights from north terminal.
“It’s absolute chaos and nobody is giving anyone information????”
Images taken at the North Terminal show passengers queuing while emergency services, including fire crews, attended.
Another Twitter user, Gavyn Milton said: "Poorly managed incident Gatwick management! Passengers left waiting for nearly an hour at baggage belt with zero info.
"A simple PA to inform us if an ongoing incident would have sufficed."
Gatwick Inspector Richard Church said: “We want to thank the public for their patience and understanding while we investigated this incident.”
