RUGBY legend Mike Tindall MBE was a guest speaker at a sporting lunch which raised £18,000 for a children’s charity.
More than 500 people attended the Best of British event at The Grand Hotel in Brighton to fundraise for Sussex-based charity Rockinghorse.
The England outside centre and husband of the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips regaled guests with tales of his life and career, including stories about his involvement in the England team at the 2003 World Cup, as well as some of the fun he and his teammates got up to during his playing days.
Director of Best of British, Ryan Heal, thanked Mike for being such an enjoyable speaker and said: “He was in top form and all the guests were in great spirits.
“These events don’t just happen and a special thanks to our sponsors for helping make the day the success it was and to all our guests that helped us raise so much.
“That brings our total donated to Rockinghorse in just the past nine months to £45,000 across our recent events - something we’re incredibly proud of.”
Rockinghorse is the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton, with the charity supporting sick and disadvantaged children in Sussex for over 50 years.
Money raised at the event will go towards funding a range of projects to support children and young people throughout Sussex, including art therapy sessions, sea swimming courses, and woodland wellbeing days for children with long-term health conditions.
Janella Merritt, head of fundraising at Rockinghorse, said: “The latest Best of British event was a real winner. It was a great event with lots of fun and Mike was such a great guest - so funny and generous with his time.
“This is an amazing amount that Ryan and his wonderful team have managed to raise for Rockinghorse. Thanks to everyone who came along and donated so generously.”
