Emergency services remain at scene of ‘suspicious package’ in Worthing

A man was arrested after the bomb squad was called to an address in Tarring Road, Worthing, at about 9am on Wednesday, June 8.

At the property, officers were concerned about a suspicious package that was found.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was called to the scene and safely destroyed the package.

A 52-year-old man has been subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

He remains in custody at this time.

On Thursday afternoon, emergency services remained at the scene.

A number of police officers and their vehicles were photographed in Tarring Road, along with fire engines and firefighters.

They were pictured entering a property in the road.

Tarring Road was closed on Wednesday as a precaution but reopened at about 10.10pm.

“Officers have thanked residents for their patience during this incident and can expect to see an increased police presence while enquiries continue,” a Sussex Police spokesman said.

On Thursday, police were called to an incident involving an “unexploded ordnance” in Wilberforce Way in Southwater, Horsham.

“We are currently dealing with possible unexploded ordnance in Wilberforce Way, Southwater,” a police spokesman said on Thursday afternoon.

“There may be some disruption, but we aim to keep it brief.”

Photographs showed a number of police vehicles at the scene and a cordon set up by officers.
