A BUS company was forced to change its route after two “badly parked” vehicles blocked a residential street.
Brighton and Hove Buses number 27 service was unable to squeeze through between a parked Mercedes car and van in Glen Rise, Westdene near Patcham from Monday evening.
A diversion was put in place on Tuesday morning after the cars were still in the same spot. Glen Rise bus stop was also suspended temporarily.
As of Wednesday morning, the cars were in the same spot.
Brighton and Hove Buses told The Argus it has since worked “directly with Sussex Police to resolve the situation of inconsiderately parked cars” which blocked buses earlier today.
One passerby said: “The vehicles have been there from 7pm Monday evening and they’re still there now on Wednesday morning.
“Unless you drive on the pavement, you wouldn’t be able to get through. I didn’t see the owners, police have been informed and the council.
“There are no markings on the road. You wouldn’t be able to get a fire engine or ambulance through if there was an emergency.
“If you can’t get a bus through you won’t be able to get a fire engine through.”
Nick Hill, commercial director for Brighton and Hove Buses and Metrobus, said: "Earlier today we worked directly with Sussex Police to resolve the situation of inconsiderately parked cars that blocked buses and other vehicles from passing in the Westdene area.
"It’s frustrating not only for our passengers but for other people too, causing unnecessary delays to journeys, and making it difficult for emergency services to get through."
Buses have been affected by bad parking before, causing delays of more than an hour.
Brighton and Hove City Council and Sussex Police were approached for comment.
