NEW research has named a Sussex city as one of the most dangerous areas in the UK for accidents involving learner drivers.
The study carried out by Bill Plant Driving School has revealed that Brighton is the 14th most dangerous area in the UK for learner driver incidents.
An examination of Freedom of Information requests to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency and the Department for Transport found the UK areas with the highest and lowest number of car accidents involving learner drivers
It found that 4.99 provisional licence holders in Brighton were involved in road accidents per 10,000 people. Fifty five reported road accidents involved learners.
The study revealed Peterborough is the safest place for learner drivers. Just 0.57 per 10,000 of the provisional licence holders in the area were involved in a reported traffic crash.
Darlington ranked the second safest place for learner drivers. Only 0.72 per 10,000 of the provisional licence holders in the Darlington area were involved in a road crash.
This is a huge difference to the most dangerous place of Colchester, having 25.20 accident reports per 10,000 provisional licence holders.
