POLICE have issued a warning to the public after an increase in mobile phone thefts on the beach.

Brighton and Hove Police are urging beachgoers to "be vigilant” after numerous thefts over the last few weekends.

“Please be vigilant as we have seen an increase in property thefts, especially mobile phones, the last few weekends," a police spokesman said.

"So keep your personal belongings safe and secure whilE you are out, and especially when in a busy place.

“We are working 24/7 and want you to have fun but as always, please help us to keep you safe by knowing your limits, looking after your mates and keeping them in line if you need to.

“Come and say hi if you see us and of course, if you find yourself in an emergency situation and need us, dial 999.”

Officers from Brighton and Hove Police have also stepped up their presence in Kipling Gardens, Rottingdean, amid reports of criminal damage and antisocial behaviour in recent weeks.

Police said foot patrols increased following complaints from members of the public.

“The community have spoken, and the neighbourhood policing team have listened,” a police spokesman said.

“Last night, officers attended the park for proactive patrols and robustly dealt with a group of five in possession of drugs.”

Last week, police also increased patrols in antisocial behaviour hot spots in a number of towns across Sussex.

Officers from Arun Police stepped up their presence in Bognor, Angmering and Barnham following reports of antisocial behaviour.

Police said foot patrols of Bognor included the town centre and areas such as the train station and railway network, Fitzleet House, the Picturedrome Cinema and Belmont Street.

Meanwhile, police also conducted patrols in a residential area in Bognor following reports of suspicious activity, as well as stepping up their presence in and around Longford Road after reports of a man cold calling at properties.
