THE richest people with links to Sussex have been revealed.
The annual Sunday Times Rich List has been published, which estimates the wealthiest 250 people in the UK based on shares, land, property, race horses and art.
The data does not include the amount of money in bank accounts.
The latest rankings revealed there are a record 177 billionaires in the UK this year.
Overall, the richest individuals and families in the UK this year are worth £711 billion, an eight per cent rise on last year's £658 billion.
At the top of the Rich List this year was Sri and Gopi Hinduja, who are worth £28.472 billion.
They were followed by Sir James Dyson and his family, who own household goods and technology company Dyson, and David and Simon Reuben.
Several on the Sunday Times Rich List have connections to Sussex.
Sir Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell – 198th
Worth: £865 million
The Beatles star lived in Brighton with his ex-wife Heather Mills for a number of years.
Despite increasing their worth by £45 million in the past 12 months, McCartney fell two places from last year's list.
The musician and his wife Nancy Shevell live near Rye.
Lord Ashcroft and family – 136th
Worth: £1.266 billion
Lord Ashcroft also fell in the rankings, moving down from 132nd in the 2021 Rich List.
Born in Chichester, he is a businessman, pollster and politician.
He is a former deputy chairman of the Conservative Party and founded Michael A Ashcroft Associates in 1972.
Peter Harris and family – 113th
Worth: £1.596 billion
Peter Harris is a businessman, best known for founding Bourne Leisure in 1964.
The holiday and leisure company owns Haven Holidays and Warner Leisure Hotels as well as Butlins, which has a site in Bognor.
Roman Abramovich – 28th
Worth: £6 billion
Roman Abramovich dropped from eighth to 28th in this year’s list.
The billionaire bought the 424-acre Fyning Hill estate in the village of Rogate from Australian media tycoon Kerry Packer for £12 million in 1999.
Russian businessman Abramovich has been the subject of government sanctions due to his links with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Rausing Family - 15th
Worth: £9.49 billion
The Rausing family are a wealthy Swedish family, best known for the Tetra Pak founder Ruben Rausing.
Hans Rausing died at the family's East Sussex estate, Wadhurst Park, in 2019 at the age of 93.
Mr Rausing moved to an estate in Sussex to avoid Swedish taxes in 1982, creating a deer park and pursuing his interests in sporting and country life.
