A SINK HOLE which appeared in the city centre has been filled in.
The depression appeared in Old Steine Gardens in Brighton on January 11 and was said to be about half a metre deep.
It was surrounded by temporary fencing and attracted criticism from members of the public.
A Christmas fair had been held on the site just days before.
The sink hole soon grew to five foot in depth.
At the time, Gary Farmer, founder of the Old Steine Community Association, said that while he expected some damage in the aftermath of the festival, he was surprised to see a hole appear at the gardens.
"It's as if someone has dug an open grave in the Old Steine and ring-fenced it and walked away,” he said.
More than four months on, the hole has now been filled in.
Workers could be seen filling excavating the ditch further with a digger before a lorry emptied tonnes of earth into it.
The area is currently hosting the Brighton Spiegeltent for the Fringe festival.
Brighton and Hove City Council was asked for comment.
