A MAN is in a serious condition after he “jumped off” Eastbourne Pier at the weekend.
Lifeboat crews from Eastbourne RNLI pulled the man from the water around 7.30pm after sending its all-weather lifeboat and smaller inshore lifeboat.
The person was taken ashore where ambulances, as well as a coastguard helicopter, were waiting.
There was a large emergency service response, with police, ambulance, coastguard and RNLI crews all at the scene.
Sussex Police confirmed the man is in a serious condition.
A spokeswoman said: “Police, coastguards and Eastbourne RNLI lifeboat responded to a report of a man who was in difficulty in the water having jumped off Eastbourne Pier at 7.20pm on Sunday (1 May).
“The man was pulled from the water by the lifeboat crew and taken to hospital in a serious condition.”
