TWO community football clubs came together for a charity match to raise money for families in Ukraine.
Coaches from Peacehaven and Telscombe FC and Seaford Town FC played in a "fun but very competitive match" which saw Peacehaven come out victorious.
Over 600 people turned out to support the teams in their Ukraine fundraiser at Peacehaven’s stadium in Piddinghoe Avenue on Friday.
Daniel Weston, from Peacehaven, is an under-nines coach for the club and said it was great to raise money for people in need.
The 37-year-old said: “The atmosphere was electric for both Peacehaven coaches and Seaford coaches. Quite a few goals were scored on the night but we didn’t count the final score. It was all about the fundraising.
“The smiles and happy faces were enough for everyone and knowing we were all doing it for the right reasons, the families of Ukraine.
“There are a lot of families within our team from all around Europe, we just thought it would be the right time to do one for Ukraine.
“We try to do one to two charity matches a year. We have done charity nights for Rockinghorse, the children’s charity, before.
“We’re not too sure on the final attendance as they stopped counting after a while. It was getting so busy that they stopped counting and were just letting people in.
“Both clubs put a lot towards it to make it a big event which is really good from Seaford as well.
“The clubhouse was packed, which also supports us as we build the right foundations for a great club.”
In the end they raised more than £1,530. Peacehaven had 22 coaches for the match, while Seaford had 26.
Daniel also started a scheme called the Peacehaven boot locker, where people donate second-hand football boots which get sold with the money going back into the team’s youth sides for equipment.
Following this, in February he won the FA Nationwide mutual respect award for his dedication to youth football.
