EMERGENCY services were called to an incident near a lighthouse yesterday afternoon.
Eastbourne RNLI was paged at 2.30pm and along with Sussex Police and coastguard teams attended the cliffs east of Belle Tout Lighthouse in Beachy Head Road, Eastbourne.
Several police cars were parked at the scene while coastguard vehicles and the helicopter were positioned near the cliff edge.
The lifeboat returned to its station at 6.30pm.
Eastbourne RNLI also responded to reports of a person in the water by Eastbourne Pier yesterday evening at around 7.30pm.
Sussex Police have been approached for comment.
