EMERGENCY services were called to a person in the water near Eastbourne Pier last night.
Eastbourne RNLI sent its all-weather lifeboat and smaller inshore lifeboat after being alerted shortly before 7.30pm.
The person was taken ashore where ambulances, as well as a coastguard helicopter, were waiting.
There was a large emergency service response, with police, ambulance, coastguard and RNLI crews all at the scene.
The person's condition is not known.
South East Coast Ambulance Service, Eastbourne RNLI and Sussex Police have been approached for further comment.
