WHAT a shame that the park and ride scheme that was planned for Mill Road has been abandoned for the time being (The Argus, April 27).
This scheme worked for Brighton and Hove Albion match days and I feel sure that it would have been successful if it was implemented on other days of the week.
Local councils around the country have successfully implemented park and ride schemes which have helped to reduce traffic congestion plus pollution.
The "Green" Party councillors on this council have opposed such schemes since the 1990s and this has held back the efforts of our city to improve the environment.
These schemes were also supported by the city's climate assembly, who backed them as a way of improving the environment and reducing carbon emissions.
Greens on the council don't seem to have this commitment to getting such schemes up and running.
It is likely that park and ride schemes would already be operational if it wasn't for the dogmatic opposition of the Green Party councillors.
They have also failed to improve the poor rate of waste recycling in the city and again show themselves to have a disappointing record on important environmental policies.
Even the City Plan shows a lacklustre commitment on these two issues and I hope that people will show how they feel about this when it comes to the local elections.
