IN answer to Steve Bell's questions on the reasons for the giant planter in Rottingdean’s High Street, it is no more than an obstruction to slow down the traffic flow.

Much like those placed in Terminal Road Brighton, they can cause dangerous driving, rather than just slowing down the flow of traffic.

With the air coming off the English Channel, there should never be a pollution problem in and around Rottingdean. This also applies to the Brighton area in general, which is close to the sea. The sea breezes should disperse any build up of pollution.

This is an over zealous city council making a mountain out of a molehill, with air pollution as the only thing that holds people to vote for the Green Party.

Most pollution is caused by uncollected rubbish bins, and the general living conditions that we create, with the normal every day use of cooking and heating our houses, and fumes from restaurants and fast food outlets. Even when we breathe we exhale carbon dioxide. This is the reason why London and similar cities have the problems of pollution.

During Tony Blair's leadership, before he instigated the EU freedom of movement,  London had managed to bring pollution levels down in the city, by moving many of it citizens out of London. Then when the EU invasion took place and London became overcrowded again, up went the pollution levels.
