I AM IN my mid 70s and know that there has been a daily direct service between Brighton and Bristol/Cardiff , at least since I was a teenager.
Railway experts can probably confirm that such a service goes back to the 1940s and possibly to before World War II.
It not a service I use often, or in its entirety, but it provides useful connections to the West Country.
When I used the service last week there were people sitting in the passageway it was so busy.
People will not use rail services if they have to make changes. They are inconvenient if you have luggage and there's anxiety over making the connection.
GWR's action in axing this Brighton to Bristol / Cardiff service is regressive.
