LOCAL councillors are calling on Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak to volunteer and pick up litter on the A27 after being slapped with Partygate fines.
The Prime Minister and the chancellor have been fined as part of a police probe into allegations of lockdown parties held at Downing Street during Covid-19.
Following the news, Labour councillors in Brighton and Hove said they have “come up with a constructive way forward” for Mr Johnson and Mr Sunak.
“Labour is calling on the Prime Minister and the Chancellor to show their contrition by volunteering to undertake some community service, in the form of litter-picking along the side of the A27,” a spokeswoman said.
“We know there is a problem with litter strewn across our main route into the city, so Labour is asking for the A27 to be first in line for any potential litter picks by the Tory frontbenchers.
“Labour is sure that the image of Johnson and Sunak in high-visibility jackets, picking litter up from our roadsides, could go some distance towards convincing the British public of their regret.
“Labour will be asking if their local Conservative colleagues will join them in calling on the Prime Minister and Chancellor to help clean up our streets and roads.”
Carrie Johnson, the wife of the Prime Minister, has also been told to expect a fixed-penalty notice.
It comes after the Metropolitan Police announced 30 additional fines on Tuesday in relation to Operation Hillman, which is looking into breaches of Covid-19 regulations.
Reacting to the news Caroline Lucas, MP for Brighton Pavilion, said: “Law and order anyone? They broke their own rules. Both of them. Prime Minister and the Chancellor.
“People dying, NHS staff risking their lives, loneliness and horror in care homes. Millions stayed at home.
“Conservatives, does breaking the law matter to you or not? Can we have the full Sue Gray report now?”
She added: “PM must go”.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said both Mr Johnson and Mr Sunak should quit.
He said: “Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak have broken the law and repeatedly lied to the British public. They must both resign.
“The Conservatives are totally unfit to govern. Britain deserves better.”
