AN MP has blasted Boris Johnson as a “liar and a charlatan” after police confirmed the Prime Minister had been fined for taking part in a party during lockdown.
Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie and the Chancellor Rishi Sunak have been told they will be fined as part of a police probe into allegations of lockdown parties held at Downing Street.
The police have fined Boris Johnson for taking part in his own birthday bash in the Cabinet Room of No 10, Downing Street has announced.
Lloyd Russell-Moyle, MP for Brighton Kemptown, said Conservative MPs should “push” to have the Prime Minister replaced for the “decency of our country”.
He said: “Boris Johnson said he attended no parties. Boris Johnson said he knew of no rules that were broken.
“Boris Johnson has been shown to bring his office into disrepute. He lied to parliament, he lied to the public and now he has been fined.
“He has misused his public position and I cannot see how he can now stay in post.
“It is deeply unusual to have a liar and a charlatan leading this country at a time of crisis and Conservative party MPs must now push to replace him for the decency of our country.”
No 10 said the Metropolitan Police had provided more clarity about why the Prime Minister had been told he would receive a fixed-penalty notice as part of the probe into alleged lockdown parties at the heart of Government.
It has not yet been confirmed why the Chancellor and Carrie Johnson have been fined.
A spokesman for No 10 said: “The Met Police have now explained that the FPN issued to the PM will be in relation to the following incident: ‘On June 19 2020 at the Cabinet Room, 10 Downing Street, between 1400 and 1500 you participated in a gathering of two or more people indoors’.”
