ENTRIES are open for a seafront soapbox race with participants encouraged to “book early”.
The 2022 soapbox race is taking place on Sunday, September 25, this year at Dukes Drive on the seafront and finishing at Helen Garden in Eastbourne.
The event, which had 35 teams last year and thousands of spectators, is a race using a non-motorised soapbox.
People will be able to witness “wacky creations” as they whizz around corners with the help of gravity in the hope of staying in one piece when they reach the finish line.
Cash prizes are up for grabs for the fastest soapbox and the “wackiest creation”.
The free-to-watch event will see participants take to the course which is just under 350m long and will contain various jumps, sharp bends, and hay bale chicanes, as well as “outlandish” outfits and soapboxes on display.
Eastbourne Borough Council’s lead member for tourism and culture, councillor Margaret Bannister said: “This is a very welcome return for the seafront soapbox race, a real fun event for both participants and spectators.
“Last year’s event was a huge success and thousands of people lined the route to watch the fun, fearless and foolhardy entrants race along the seafront.
“Whether it’s raising your company profile, doing your bit for charity or a project between family and friends, we’d love to have you involved.
“Making and completing your wacky creation doesn’t have to cost the earth plus you can have a great time building it.”
Entries cost £100 per team and for information and to book into the competition visit www.seafrontsoapbox.com.
