A COLLEGE is set to celebrate diversity and inclusivity as its hosts its first Pride event.
East Sussex College Lewes will be celebrating the LGBTQ+ community at the college and within the local area with a wide range of activities, including a drag catwalk show.
The student-run event coincides with the college’s open event, with the celebrations open to students, staff and visitors.
The event has the theme of ‘Love Around the World’ to embrace diversity from all corners of the globe.
Student and organiser of the pride event, Natalia Rumian, said they are looking forward to the event and seeing the hard work in organising the event come to fruition.

“Pride events promote equality and give people the chance to connect and be a part of a welcoming community.
“Our theme of ‘Love Around the World’ has been chosen to further promote this equality and be as inclusive as we can.
“The reason why it is so important for this event to occur on our campus is so that we can begin the journey of creating an LGBTQ+ community in Lewes and ensure that everyone at the college feels comfortable and welcome.
“Visitors will be able to get a deeper understanding of not only the courses on our campus but also the college community and our event which will be full of fun, games, food and entertainment too.”
Alongside the event, the college has also ensured that all LGBTQ+ students have access to a safe space to provide a place where students can socialise and work quietly.
The event will take place this evening from 4pm to 7.30pm at the college’s Cliffe Building.
The Pride celebrations come as Brighton and Hove Pride prepares to mark its 30th anniversary after a two year delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Christina Aguilera, Ella Henderson, Paloma Faith and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Bimini are all set to appear at the Pride event’s concert in Preston Park this summer.
The event will also see a return of the community parade, Pride dog show and the two-day Pride village party.
