Michele Spicer threatened with legal action over Goring beach hut

Michele Spicer was the first person evicted from a beach hut in 25 years after she got into a row with people who lived close by about where she could park her car on Goring seafront, near Worthing.

She was adamant the “private” car park was free to use for anybody and refused to use a nearby visitor’s car park.

The former teacher had her licence terminated in June last year before being evicted in September for “nuisance, aggressive behaviour, swearing and playing excessively loud music in her car”.

Since then, the plot has been empty with Michele vowing to put in a new hut earlier this week.

But the mother-of-two's contractor was told by Worthing Borough Council on Monday that if they attempt to build a structure on plot number 239, they will be required to remove it immediately. They will also be charged if the council has to remove the new hut.

Another letter sent yesterday by the council’s lawyer stated that Michele is showing “every intention of committing an act of trespass” and it will have to “seriously consider” taking legal action.

The letter also stated that an injunction could be served to Michele and anyone else involved will be charged the council’s legal costs if it is “forced to take that action”.

It ended asking Michele to confirm in writing that she will not place any structure on the plot. Michele said she is going to “build it anyway”.

Another letter yesterday added that Michele's contractors not giving an “unequivocal statement or agreement that you will not site a new beach hut on the former site of beach hut” means legal action is being considered.

The council told The Argus it has reminded Michele and her contractor about a licence being required and is “exploring a range of options to resolve this matter”.

She said: “My dear hut builder was ready to start, I sent the bill straight to the council. I am adamant the beach hut is going to start before I leave for a holiday on Monday. The gorgeous man in my life, he doesn’t know the dramas going on. That’s a bit of calm down time.

“I’m going to build it anyway, this is just a bit of fun to shove the dirt in their face.”

A spokeswoman for Worthing Borough Council said: “We have been in contact with Mrs Spicer and her contractor to remind them that a licence is required to site a beach hut on council-owned land. 

“We are exploring a range of options to resolve this matter.”
