Michele Spicer to put new beach hut on old plot in Goring

Michele Spicer, a retired teacher, bought her original hut on Goring seafront for £15,000 in April 2020 with inheritance money.

But the mother-of-two got into a row with people in nearby flats about where she could park her car. She was adamant the “private” car park was free to use for anybody.

She was evicted in September last year for "nuisance, aggressive behaviour, swearing and playing excessively loud music in her car".

She showed "complete disregard for residents' peaceful occupation of their properties".

Michele was the first person to be evicted in 25 years.

Her hut was removed and the plot has been empty since.

Now she is getting a new hut installed, saying "Worthing Borough Council don’t have a leg to stand on”.

Michele, who called her hut a "mermaid haven", said: “Just before I went on holiday last week, I just thought ‘I don’t know why I’m putting up with this’ you can’t just take away a £35,000 beach hut.

“I want my beach hut back and I want to start enjoying my life again. I wanted it by the end of March.

“Luckily I found someone who said they could start this week. The council haven’t got a leg to stand on, I know that and they know that. It’s totally illegal, I’m going to sue them. I know it’s going to stay there and there is nothing they can do about it.

“I’m going to sue them for every penny I get because they have put me through hell for the last two years.”

Michele had her licence terminated by the council on June 11 last year after she continued to “harass and use vulgar language to residents” at the nearby Waterfront residency after being issued with a community protection warning.

Also, she had not paid the annual licence fee in April 2021.

But the council letters were being sent to her old address in Oxford and Michele claims she “didn’t get the chance” to pay because of this.

A letter from her lawyer said the council was aware of her new address.

Michele said she will be getting the beach hut installed on her former plot, number 239 of Goring seafront, today.

The “campaigner for the vulnerable” said she will invite people in Worthing to celebrate with her on Sunday.

A Worthing Borough Council spokesman did not confirm what action it would take if Michele was to put a hut on her former plot, but did confirm that she does not have a licence.
