A BREWERY is hosting a night of drinks and food to support humanitarian work in Ukraine.
UnBarred Brewery in Elder Place, Brighton, will also be offering a raffle where people can win prizes such as a hot air balloon ride over Brighton courtesy of Ascension Cider, as well as vouchers and festival tickets.
The team, led by owner Jordan Mower, decided to bring together various brewers and a butcher to provide a night of fundraising on Monday, March 28, to help those caught up in the “horrific events” being seen after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The brewery is donating all funds to the British Red Cross, a charity which provides aid for people during wars and other emergencies.
Brett Preston, marketing and social media manager at UnBarred, said the team was “devastated” by current events in Ukraine and wanted to bring people together in Brighton to help in some way.
He said: “We have had some conversations about what we can do to help the situation for Ukrainian people.
“We have seen great things going on such as people brewing beers with certain branding to support Ukraine. We thought about that but we think we doing this will maximise the most amount of money possible.
“Our team are donating their evenings so will mingle and enjoy their evenings but help out on the bar.
“We’re going to have a suggested donation amount. The drinks and food are pay what you feel, we want people not to feel pressured to have to pay a certain amount of money.
"We are hoping some people want to pay more money for a pint which we thought would be cool. If someone wants to pay £10 that’s great, if someone feels they can only afford £2.50 then that’s also great.”
“We want to make it a great community event and bring people together.”
So far, around 30 businesses in Brighton and Sussex have got involved with prizes, including free tickets for a comedy gig at Komedia, a £100 voucher at Fatto A Mano restaurant, a brewery tour at Hand Brew Co and much more.
