A VEHICLE has crashed into a railway bridge, causing major train disruptions.
The vehicle crashed into the bridge near Haywards Heath at about 11am on Monday, March 21.
Southern Rail announced that due to the incident, trains were forced to run at a reduced speed while going through the area.
In a statement released on social media, a Southern Rail spokesman said: “A road vehicle has collided with a bridge in the Haywards Heath area.
“This means that trains through the area will have to run at reduced speeds.
“Some services may be delayed by up to 20 minutes.
“You can still use your normal route at this time but will need to allow extra time.”
Railway response teams were deployed to the scene of the crash, and have since declared the bridge safe for trains to run over at normal speed.
“Some services are still subject to delays of up to 20 minutes as congestion built up in the area,” the Southern Rail spokesman added.
Last month, a lorry crashed into a railway bridge near Barnham.
As a result, trains were forced to run at a reduced speed.
