PETER Kyle has met with the President of the United States.
The MP for Hove and Portslade was promoted to the shadow Northern Ireland secretary in a Labour cabinet reshuffle last year.
During his trip, Mr Kyle says he will be “focussed on the historic links between the UK, US and Ireland and how those relationships can once again strengthen politics, peace and posterity in Northern Ireland”.
On Thursday, the 51-year-old shared a picture on social media of himself alongside Joe Biden, President of the United States, in Washington DC.
Alongside the image, Mr Kyle said: “Meeting the President of the United States today was a true honour.
“He reiterated the paramount importance his administration places on the Good Friday Agreement.
“I explained that Labour will breathe new life into the spirit and principles of the agreement for a better shared future.”
Earlier in his trip, Mr Kyle visited the Irish Arts Center in New York and met with David Miliband, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova and deputy head of EU delegation Michael Curtis.
After a long day of amazing meetings, time to visit one of my favourite places on earth.

“Europe is being tested by an unwarranted war causing thousands to flee home in search of emergency shelter,” Mr Kyle said alongside a photo of himself next to Mr Miliband.
It’s a challenge many parts of the world also face.
“Was a pleasure catching up with David Miliband, who runs the International Rescue Committee and hearing about the responses needed to this crisis.”
Alongside a picture of himself and US senator Chris Murphy, “I first met Chris Murphy three years ago in London, so it was great to meet up again in Washington to discuss Northern Ireland.
“As a member of the senate Foreign Relations Committee with a keen interest in Irish affairs, I value greatly his thoughts.”
Mr Kyle took over as shadow Northern Ireland secretary from Louise Haigh, who left her post as to replace Jim McMahon as shadow transport secretary.
The reshuffle also saw Sir Keir Starmer appoint Yvette Cooper as shadow home secretary.
In other moves, David Lammy was promoted to shadow foreign secretary, replacing Lisa Nandy, while Ed Miliband retained his role over climate change policy, but lost his shadow business secretary role to Jonathan Reynolds.
Peter Kyle has been a Member of Parliament since 2015.
A former charity sector executive, he previously served as a shadow justice minister from 2020 to 2021 and a shadow education minister in 2021.
