TIMES of distress can often bring out the best in people.
That was certainly the case on Monday when two heroic men rushed to the aid of a motorcyclist after he was in collision with a van on the A259 near Portslade.
So, when The Argus got the opportunity to meet these two fearless gentlemen, we were honoured.
Mark Nichols and Chris Merritt showed all the traits of a modern-day hero - selfless, brave and fearless.
Returning to the crash site just hours after the incident brought back vivid emotions for the pair, who recounted the horrific experience in detail.
They pointed out that for years the junction has been a death trap. It is time both the city council and Sussex Police acted on this.
Many people may have been too shocked to react, let alone do the right thing. But these two abandoned what they were doing without a moment's delay and did everything they could do to save a man's life.
They show all of us that, even at our busiest, we can be our most selfless.
As the war in Ukraine rages, our modern-day heroes, including Mark and Chris, should be celebrated.
