TWO police officers have been sacked after they were found to have assaulted a teenage girl.

PC Deborah Sands, 48, and PC Kris Green, 36, based in East Sussex, were the subject of an accelerated misconduct hearing chaired by the Chief Constable at Sussex Police Headquarters, Lewes, on Monday, March 14.

The pair faced an allegation of breaching standards of professional behaviour in respect of discreditable conduct, after they were charged with assault following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The two officers were convicted following a trial in December 2021 of assaulting a teenage girl by using excessive use of force against her while she was being detained in Eastbourne in May 2020.

The allegation against PC Sands and PC Green was found to be proven by chief constable Jo Shiner, with a decision that they are to be dismissed from the force.

CC Jo Shiner said: "We expect our officers to act with the utmost integrity, and in accordance with the force’s values, the Code of Ethics and the Standards of Professional Behaviour.

"The actions of these two officers fell short of that and in accordance with the College of Policing guidance, they have been dismissed from the force.”
