A SCHOOL had 240 girls playing in the ‘biggest ever football session’.

Ardingly welcomed players from 19 schools in the area for training sessions and a match, as part of the Let Girls Play campaign by England Football Both of Ardingly’s Astroturf areas were packed, as 13 of the school’s sports coaches ran the young players through various drills and led match play on Wednesday, March 9.

Ross Millard, director of sport at the host school, said: “It was fantastic to see so many girls enjoying a morning of football.

“It is vital that girls get equal treatment, and we get them out playing sports as part of their wellbeing.”

Let Girls Play was Sussex’s contribution to what the England Football hoped would be the largest girls’ football event ever, and drew support from some of the top names in football.

“It’s an important moment for all of us to acknowledge what needs to be done to achieve equal access to football for girls,” said Lotte Wubben-Moy, defender for Arsenal, via Twitter.
