Torrential rain forecast for across Sussex this weekend

The Met Office says heavy rain will fall in Brighton, Worthing, Crawley, Horsham, Hastings and Chichester.

The rain is forecast on Friday afternoon and across Saturday and Sunday.

Temperatures will remain around 11C over most of the weekend, before climbing to 16C to 17C in some parts of Sussex next week.

Met Office chief meteorologist Neil Armstrong said: “An energetic, mobile weather pattern is driving successive low-pressure systems across the Atlantic over the coming days.

“With high pressure to the east of the UK, these systems stall and weaken as they reach us and bring spells of rain and wind together with milder air.”

At this stage, no National Severe Weather warnings have been issued.

“However, that situation may change over the coming days so keep an eye on the forecast for your area,” Neil added.

On Saturday, Brighton is forecast a mostly cloudy start with isolated showers and strong winds.

Becoming brighter from late morning as clouds break and showers clear, a dry but windy and increasingly cloudy night is expected.

From Sunday, strong winds with outbreaks of rain followed by showers are expected.

Becoming largely settled and feeling mild through Monday and Tuesday, light winds and sunny spells are also forecast.
