Two pensioners are among those dealt with by magistrates’ courts this month for driving offences.

At Brighton Magistrates Court, a 75-year-old woman was ordered to pay more than £300 and disqualified from driving for six months after failing to give information relating to the driver of a vehicle who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence. At Crawley Magistrates Court an 82-year-old woman pleaded guilty to speeding.

Jacqueline Harris, of Rymill Road, St Leonards, was sentenced by the Brighton court on March 4 for the offence, which is contrary to section 172(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and Schedule 2 to the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.

She was fined £180, and ordered to pay a £34 surcharge to fund victim services and costs of £90, following the offence in Shoreham last June. She was also given six penalty points on her licence.

Meanwhile, Kathleen Finnigan, 82, was ordered to pay a total of £100 after pleading guilty to speeding on the A259 in Shoreham in June last year.

Crawley Magistrates Court fined Finnigan, of Hills Road, Steyning, £30 on March 1 and ordered her to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £36.

Finnigan had pleaded not guilty to an offence of driving a motor vehicle without an appropriate licence. That offence was withdrawn.
