AN ALBION Women star says the club are targeting a top-half finish as the side return to action this weekend.
Kayleigh Green scored a brace in Brighton and Hove Albion’s last Women’s Super League match – a 4-1 win over Reading on February 13.
Returning to action against Aston Villa at 11.30am on Saturday, Albion have the chance to climb to sixth in the table – a spot Green believes the side should be striving for.
“We know if we perform to the level we’re capable of we can give anyone in the WSL a hard game,” she said.
“That’s what happened against Reading, and you could see our confidence returning during the game.
“But it’s been three weeks since that game and we’ve only been back together as a squad this week because of the internationals.
“So, we need to start again, find those levels we did against Reading and do it on Saturday and then in every game before the end of the season.
“We did it at the start of the season and got ourselves up to third in the table, so we know what we’re capable of as a team, but the key is doing it consistently.
“We want to finish in the top half, that’s our aim.”
Albion suffered their first defeat of the season at home to Aston Villa back in September.
Villa would also draw level on points with Albion should they claim victory again this weekend.
Green said she is expecting another difficult 90 minutes against Villa, who won 2-0 at Everton in their last WSL fixture.
The Wales international also highlighted England internationals Hannah Hampton and Jill Scott as tough opponents, who joined Villa on loan from Manchester City in January.
“They’ve got some great players and a lot of experience so it will be tough,” she said.
Albion will wear their yellow and blue third choice kit in a show of solidarity for the people of Ukraine, with proceeds from shirt sales being donated to the Red Cross.
“It’s a great gesture by the club and a strong statement of support,” Green added.
“Everyone is thinking of the people of Ukraine.”
Albion’s next home fixture is against Arsenal on Sunday, March 13.
Hope Powell’s side currently sit in eighth place in the WSL – having won six of the 15 matches so far this season.
