A MAJOR road was closed after police responded to calls of “a man in distress”.
Officers were called to the A27 at Hollingbury at 5pm yesterday following reports of “a man in distress”.
Sussex Police closed the road in both directions between the A270 and the A23.
A spokesman for the force said: “Police responded to calls of a man in distress near the A27 at Hollingbury at approximately 5pm on February 23.
“To ensure the safety of the man and the wider public, the road was temporarily closed, and following negotiations, the male was brought to safety and the roads were re-opened.”
National Highways South East confirmed that the road was reopened at around 6.30pm following the police incident.
Traffic was affected between Carden Avenue to A270 at Stanmer Park.
An AA traffic update said drivers were faced between 15 and 35 minutes of delays while officers dealt with the incident.
