THE promenade near a popular seafront restaurant has been flooded as Storm Euncie struck.

Video footage shows waves crashing and spray covering the promenade near Marrocco's restaurant and ice cream parlour.

Pebbles brought in by the high tide have also been scattered across the pavement.

It comes after Brighton and Hove City Council have urged people to stay away from the seafront today, as "flying pebbles" could cause injury.

The city' seafronts can be "extremely dangerous" in stormy weather with violent waves coming from different directions, coupled with freezing temperatures and high spring tides.

The highest alert – meaning a high impact is very likely – was issued to run from 10am until 3pm over Sussex due to fears of Storm Eunice “causing significant disruption and dangerous conditions due to extremely strong winds” up to 90mph, the Met Office said.

Hove seafront was empty this morning and photos showed grey skies ad hail coming down.

Lifeguard vehicles are also seen patrolling in case of emergency.

Homes have been left without power, while flights and trains have been suspended and roads, schools and businesses have shut as potentially record-breaking gusts of more than 120mph have been recorded in the most exposed areas.
