DOZENS of firefighters are battling a blaze at a restaurant in the city centre.
Eight fire engines from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene of a fire at
Dos Sombreros, in Ship Street, Brighton this morning.
Crews from Roedean, Preston Circus, Hove, Barcombe, Newhaven and Worthing are using a hose reel, firefighting foam and breathing apparatus to extinguish the blaze.
"Good progress" is being made but members of the public have been asked to avoid the area.
All people who were in the building are accounted for, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said.
A spokesman said: "East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service remains at the scene of a fire at a restaurant on Ship Street, Brighton.
"As of 6.20am, eight fire engines are at the scene near the junction of Prince Albert Street.
"Crews from Roedean, Preston Circus, Hove, Barcombe, Newhaven and Worthing are using a hose reel, firefighting foam and breathing apparatus.
"Good progress is being made and the fire is surrounded.
"All persons who were in the building are accounted for.
"Police and ambulance have been alerted as have the utility companies.
"Members of the public are asked to avoid the area."
A spokesman from Sussex Police said: "At About 5.26am on Monday, police were alerted to a fire at a restaurant in Ship Street, Brighton.
"The incident is ongoing and is currently being led by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service; police are supporting with road closures.
"No further info at this time."
