TWO MEN have been taken to hospital in a serious condition after a plane crashed in a field.
The plane came down roughly four miles from Shoreham Airport at about 1pm on Friday, February 11.
Air Accident investigators have been called to the scene.
A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said crews including the hazardous area response team (HART) are in attendance, alongside the air ambulance service assessing and treating two patients at the scene.
"Two patients were assessed and treated before being airlifted to Royal Sussex County Hospital in a serious condition,” he said.
An Air Accident investigators spokesman said emergency services responded to reports that a light aircraft had crashed on open downland at Titch Hill between Steyning and Wiston in West Sussex.
"There were reported to be two men in the aircraft, pilot and passenger, who received medical attention at the scene,” he said.
"They were then being taken by air ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and their conditions were initially assessed as serious."
Note: It was initially thought that the incident took place at Shoreham Airport.
