AN ANIMAL lover who rescued two abused dogs has saved another pooch from death's door - and is now seeking a permanent home for him.
Kasey Carlin adopted Maggie after she was shot 17 times and left blind and missing an ear, and she became an online sensation.
She then adopted Millie, who was found with four bullets in her head and a broken jaw after someone attempted to suffocate her.
Kasey, from Storrington, is now fostering Siberian husky Altai, who was abandoned by his owner in Russia and left paralysed after being attacked by other dogs and run over.
Despite his “perfect temperament”, Kasey said she has not had a single adoption enquiry in more than a year.
Kasey thinks he is overlooked because of his disability, but she says he is making good progress, having regained some sensation.
Altai, who is around three years old, is also receiving daily physiotherapy in the hope that he will walk again one day.
She said: “He loves every person he meets. He's polite to dogs and even enjoys the company of cats, bunnies and cows.
“He enjoys an hour walk over the South Downs every morning and on the weekends where he does a mega hike in his wheelchair.
“He really is the perfect and most polite dog you could ever meet so there isn't any good reason why he hasn't found a home.”
Altai was found by a Russian couple who were walking their dogs when he came bounding up to them to play.
Assuming he had been abandoned, they tried to grab him, but he ran into a pack of aggressive dogs who attacked him, and when he escaped he ran into a road and was hit by a car.
He arrived in Sussex late last year after being cared for by animal rescuers in Russia.
He uses a wheelchair to get around due to the severity of his injuries, but Kasey says it does not hold him back.
She said: “Huskies are an active breed and Altai will surely give us the run around.
“Seeing him kick his legs around gives me hope that he too can learn to walk again.”
Altai is available for adoption through @wunderdogrescue_
