THESE sporting students are shining on the national and international stage.
Young athletes from Shoreham Academy are competing at the top level in sport and dance.
One youngster recently signed for a Premier League football club, while a group of gymnasts competed in the world championships last year.
Zack Henry, currently studying at the academy, signed for Crystal Palace and has been selected to attend the England men’s under-15 squad training camp at St George’s Park, the England men’s team training facility in Staffordshire.
Also representing Shoreham at the top flight are sixth form students Rosie Cheale, Emily Austin, Phillipa Museva and Atanaska Kirilova, who are all part of the Great British rhythmic gymnastics team.
In October of last year, the team represented Great Britain at the world championships in Tokyo, where they set their best ever score, finishing 17th in the world.
Jim Clarke, head of PE at Shoreham Academy, said: “We are incredibly proud of the sporting achievements of our students and the way they strive to achieve the very highest standards.
“Our vision is that students enjoy their PE lessons and access our extensive extracurricular programme, so that they are inspired into a lifelong participation in physical activity.”
Other high achievers include Rafi Jalloh, a year 9 basketball player who recently made it to the national finals of a three-a-side competition.
While A-level students Leah Gallant and Maisie Wickens were part of the Brookes Dancing Academy team which saw recent success at the 2021 dance world cup.
Maisie commented: “My time within dance at Shoreham Academy has given me so many amazing opportunities which have inspired me to continue studying dance further.”
Last year, Shoreham Academy revived its netball academy, with over 30 students selected to take part.
Jim Coupe, principal of Shoreham Academy, said: “Despite a challenging 18 months for us all, our students have continued to show immense dedication and commitment to their studies, sports and disciplines, so it is wonderful to see them enjoy and celebrate their collective and individual achievements."
“They are incredible ambassadors for Shoreham who stand to inspire the rest of our school community, and other students of the same age, to achieve their goals. “We are very proud of all our students for living out these values in all they do at Shoreham Academy and in their wider lives.”
