TEQUILA is on the menu as a national gin and rum festival adds a Mexican twist to its Brighton and Hove date.
The Gin and Rum festival will host a huge party at the Brighton Hilton Metropole this summer and the newest edition to its line-up is a tequila bar.
During its debut visit to Brighton the festival will run two shows, with talks from professionals and a chance to sample plenty of spirits.
Bobby Nanua, Gin and Rum festival director, said: “With the rise in tequila sales and interest in general, it made sense for us to include tequila within our festival.
“Covid-19 has allowed people to explore more spirits at home and hopefully this will follow through in events throughout 2022.”
Alongside tequila, the event on Saturday, July 30, will stock more than 120 of the world’s top gins and rums, with many exclusive to the festival.
Organisers are excited to bring Wessex Gin to the Brighton show – it is made at a family-run, craft gin distillery in Surrey - as well as Bruni Collins, a Spanish gin created by Manolo Martin, the world championship bartender in 2011.
There will be talks from expert distillers as well as DJs and a street-food market as the day-event visits Sussex in what is its fourth year of travelling around the UK.
Donna Brady, event organiser, said: “There’s plenty of opportunity to meet both local and national distillers who will be there on the day showcasing their products and offering free tasters.
“This year is set to be our biggest and best year yet, and the team are so excited to be adding Brighton to our portfolio.
“We encourage people from all types of background to join us, whether you consider yourself a gin or rum connoisseur or you're just looking for a new experience.”
The festival initially toured venues in and around Derby in 2018, and grew to travel the UK the following year.
“We couldn’t think of a better setting for our festival than Brighton, with its legendary nightlife and diverse culture,” said Donna.
