A WOMAN is raising money for her cat's vet bills after he was diagnosed with a life threatening parasite.
Ali Moraes, 29, from Brighton, was "heartbroken" when she was told that her two-year-old cat, Sol, could die.
Sol came down with a high fever and needed urgent treatment - with Ali then told that without costly care he will not make it.
He has now been diagnosed with a rare blood parasite, which is fully treatable but expensive.
She said: "They basically told me that they could put him down, which I didn't accept, that I could bring him home and he could die, or I could find a way to raise the money."
Ali has since found that her other two cats, Rio and Lou, also have the parasite - although they have less severe cases.
Due to his condition, Sol is in and out of hospital regularly and Ali cannot afford his care by herself.
She began a Gofundme page two weeks ago and has already raised almost £2,000 for the treatment.
Ali said: "When I started the fundraiser I didn't even think we would get £30, everyone has been amazing.
"Unfortunately, every time Sol has to go into hospital for fluids or supportive care for his fever, it costs £500 a day."
Now that there is an official diagnosis Ali hopes that Sol will be able to get better, but he will still require follow up care and support for his condition.
The treatment of anti-biotics will take at least eight weeks and may not work the first time.
Ali has had Sol since he was 12-weeks old and says he has helped her through some difficult times.
She said: "He hasn't ever given up on me so I'm not ever going to give up on him either, I'm going to keep fighting for him and getting him everything that he needs.
"I want him to have a chance to have a life, and that's what these donations can do for him.
"Thanks to everyone's contributions, Sol has a chance at a life."
