ON-STREET, paper parking permits are to be scrapped next month.
From February 1, resident, visitor, and business permits will be replaced with digital parking permits in controlled parking zones in Worthing.
Digital parking permits are already in place at car parks in the town, but Adur and Worthing Councils have now expanded the scheme.
But as there are no controlled parking zones in Adur, on-street residential or business parking permits are not required there.
As a result of the change, the Parking Shop in Chapel Road, Worthing is to close on March 31 as the buying of permits moves online.
A spokesman for Worthing Borough Council said: “There are numerous benefits to using a digital permit system, including reducing the impact we have on the environment by not issuing paper and plastic permit holders.

“There is also added convenience for customers being able to manage parking at any time, rather than having to wait for physical permits to be produced and posted.
“Previous customer feedback has supported the move to digital permits, but we will always provide services which are suitable for everyone.”
Digital permits do not need to be displayed in vehicle windows and drivers will receive an email notification when their permit has been activated.
The move away from paper and plastic permits is designed to benefit the environment, remove the waiting time of receiving a physical permit and reduce the risk of loss or theft.
People without online access will be able to request a paper application from Adur & Worthing Councils' Parking Services Team by telephone on 01903 221180 or 01903 239999 or by email on parking.comments@adur-worthing.gov.uk
