A MAN has been arrested after a woman was sprayed with a “noxious substance” in a suspected acid attack.
Officers responded to reports of a “noxious substance” being thrown over a woman at an address in Brasslands Drive, Portslade at 10.53 this morning.
The woman has been taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Sussex Police confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm and has been taken into custody.
A spokesman for the force said: “Police are not looking for any other suspects at this time.
“No one else has been harmed and there is no threat to the public.
“Any witnesses to the incident as asked to report online or ring 101 quoting serial 742 of Jan 1.”
Photos from the scene show armed police, dog units and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) in attendance.
Officers closed the road while a dim unit, which is used to detect a range of chemicals, worked at the site.
A spokeswoman for ESFRS confirmed firefighters were called by the ambulance service at 11.43 to attended the incident.
Three fire engines were sent to following reports of a "chemical incident".
